SGA Fall Candidate Information

Below you can see the candidate information for each of the Fall Election candidates:

Candidate Name: DeMarcus Mashack
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: I feel that I have a lot to offer as a freshman senator. I'm also an African American student athlete, and I'm open to anything. I'm excited about speaking up for the other African American students on campus. I'm also a good communicator with leadership qualities.

Candidate Name: Bekah Cole
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: As a student who started college in the spring semester, I came in at a time when it felt like everyone had already found their people, and I really struggled to find a place where I felt like I fit. As an SGA senator, I would aspire to create an environment where every student will feel like they have a place on this campus where they belong.

Candidate Name: Gabrielle Ethridge
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: I am running to continue to give the African American students at UNCA a voice. That will be the basis of my platform. I would also like to be an advocate for the mental health services on campus and want to make sure that not just the freshman on campus, but the entire student body feels safe and understood.

Candidate Name: Brad Lauterbach
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: Student mental health is at a critical point. People have fewer friends and personal relationships than ever before. I want to advocate for community events and student engagement to foster an environment where students can build meaningful relationships and have a fulfilling experience at UNCA.

Candidate Name: Keira Gladden
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: I'm running to become more involved in our school community and to help create a positive, inclusive environment where every student feels heard. As someone interested in pursuing a career in law, I'm passionate about advocacy, leadership, and making sure student voices are represented in meaningful ways.

Candidate Name: Robert Gale
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: I believe that it is important for the people of Asheville's voices to be heard. If we want to see what we want passed, then we must see to it that our representatives are to listen to the people, and I plan on easing that communication line. Ultimately, my goals are your goals. We are united in this together. Vote Robert!

Candidate Name: Robert Addison
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: I am running to promote diversity and inclusion among the students and staff of UNC Asheville. As the former Chair of the Davie County SURF Board and a former paralegal, I have years of experience with bureaucracy and leadership. I stand for the conservation of our woods, the accommodation of our students, and the preservation of our values. Vote Robert and Robert!

Candidate Name: George Johnson
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: I am running on behalf of the people. For the past few years, I have been fighting to uplift and protect minoritized communities (LGBTQ+, Black, POC, disabled, and women) and to amplify their voices. I am determined to bring HOPE to this time of fear, where policies are being made to undermine the backbone of America and our UNCA community. I will advocate for reforms and bills for the student body!

Candidate Name: Jaleal Jordan
SGA Ballot: Freshman
Candidate Description: I'm running for change. I want to change the school campus life and bring more active activities and fun events to the school for students and even staff. I feel as though UNC Asheville needs more of a campus life at the school, seeing as we have no frats or sororities on campus that can bring that. But I'm not one for just having a good time—I also believe in getting work done, as I am on an academic scholarship and have to keep a certain GPA, so academic diligence is key. This is why I believe you should vote for me.

Candidate Name: Luis Reyes Roman
SGA Ballot: Transfer
Candidate Description: My platform is dedicated to amplifying student voices, especially those of all students, by ensuring their meaningful participation in shared campus governance. I am committed to improving transparent communication between students and administration, cultivating a campus where all are respected, and supporting the success of every student.

Candidate Name: Cameron Vega
SGA Ballot: Transfer
Candidate Description: For transfer students the idea of starting over again at a new campus is scary and, at times, isolating; but as transfer students it's important to take pride in the fact that instead of giving up, we chose to advocate for ourselves and start anew. As someone who came from a school where I, as an equity senator, was constantly fighting for equality amongst students in a school facing institutional injustice, I am extremely confident in my ability to advocate for all students despite the circumstances, unconventional and conventional alike. I am proud to be running for a spot as your transfer senator with the promise that I will constantly work towards a UNCA that we can be proud of: a UNCA that promotes equality, inclusivity, and opportunity across the campus community.
