Add: On page 101, under Foreign Language Licensure (K-12):
Required courses in Education-21 hours, including EDUC 310, 316, 317, 385, 396, 455 and 496.
Add : On page 102, between course descriptions for EDUC 315 and 317 :
316 Practicum in Teaching Foreign Languages, K-12 (1)
A series of focused classroom observations and discussions of teaching techniques
applied to the teaching of a second language in K-12 curriculum. Field work
required. Prerequisite : EDUC 310. See department chair.
Add : On page 104, under the description for EDUC 385 :
Prerequisites : EDUC 310, 316, 317.
Impact:
This proposal will add one credit hour to the requirements for Foreign Language Licensure,
and it will add another field experience. This will bring the requirements for FL licensure
candidates to :
27 hrs in FREN/GERM/SPAN ; 30 hrs in CLAS
21 hrs in EDUC
10 hrs in PSYC
This course will become part of the regular course assignment for the person teaching EDUC 385.
Rationale:
This course is designed to fill a gap in the current FL licensure program. It will allow
candidates to experience additional field work focused specifically on foreign language
methods before taking the four-credit methods course. Thus we will have a well-articulated sequence of field experiences, beginning with EDUC 310 and continuing
through 316 and 385.
