Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

FWDC 2:  Change in Membership of the UNCA Executive Commission for Minority Affairs (revision of SD0286)

PROPOSED CHANGES:

1. Delete the following:

Director of Multi-Cultural Affairs

Replace with the following:

Coordinator of Multi-Cultural Student Programs

2. Add the following:

Director of Minority and Diversity Affairs, ex officio

RATIONALE:
The Executive Commission for Minority Affairs currently is composed of 5 faculty (2 elected, 2 appointed, each pair to include at least 1 minority, and the Faculty Senate Chair), and 2 minority students. The VCAA, the VCSA, Affirmative Action Officer, and the director of Multi-Cultural Affairs also serve ex officio. The position of the Director of Multi-Cultural Affairs has been canceled and replaced by the Coordinator of Multi-Cultural Student Programs. The Commission sees that this change should be reflected in the composition of its membership.

The Commission sees the Director of Minority and Diversity Affairs as necessary to the effectiveness of the group and to its role as a consulting body for the Director of Minority and Diversity Affairs.
