Statement of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 20: Reduction of Hours in Economics Minor
Delete: In Catalog 1999-2000, on page 95, the complete entry for Minor in Economics.
Add: In place of the deleted entry, the following:
Minor in Economics
18 hours in Economics: ECON 101,102; 12 additional hours in Economics, at least six of which must be at the 300 level or above.
Impact:
Additional students will declare a minor in economics, perhaps leading to a slight overall
increase in enrollment.
Rationale:
The minor in economics provides evidence for the attainment of a general familiarity with
the discipline, both at the introductory and an advanced (usually junior) level. The
reduction in the hours required for the minor assures that students will obtain a general
familiarity with economics, both at the introductory and an advanced level, while providing
increased opportunities for students majoring in complementary areas such as
Environmental Studies, Management, and Political Science.
