Statement of Faculty Senate Action:
Effective Date: Fall 2000
Delete: On pg 41, under Arts Courses, last sentence in first paragraph:
Students may take only one ARTS laboratory for credit.
On pg 128, after course description for ARTS 310,
Note: student may take only one course from ARTS 311-315 for credit.
Impact Statement:
This change would not impact other departments.
Rationale:
Students who take an ARTS lab in an area and then decide to major in that area can not
take another ARTS lab for credit. Deleting this statement would allow a student who took
ARTS 311, Visual Arts Studio and then decided to major in Art to take ARTS 312-315 and
receive credit for it, instead of having to take one of the substitutions.
Effective Date: Fall 2000
Delete: On pg 41, in listing of ARTS lab substitutions:
MCOM 303 Video Workshop 1
Impact Statement:
At the request of the Chair of the Mass Communication, MCOM 303 should no longer be
listed as a substitution for the ARTS lab. In the last 10 years, only one student has taken
the class for ARTS lab credit.
Rationale:
MCOM 303 has a prerequisite of MCOM 205 Basic Video Production. The course has
evolved into an advanced technical experience in video production and no longer can
function as a hands-on, introductory experience for non-majors.
