B.F.A. students must comply with all rules, deadlines, and GPA requirements specified in the Art Department Guidelines. Waivers or exceptions must be approved by the Department chair.Rationale: The requirement of credit in the core courses Art 100, 101, 102 and 103 prior to a major declaration will help insure that students who declare are planning to continue their major in art.
Add: on page 64, section I, after (490, 491) the following,
Students with an intermedia concentration are also required to take ART 492.
Rationale: Double concentration majors (intermedia) do their Senior Exhibition in two or more media. These students need a longer period of time to bring their exhibitions into a cohesive state due to the complexity of combined media. This kind of show is more demanding to produce than a show of single media work. The department faculty feels that students need more time to consult with the faculty as they work in this combined media format. Furthermore it has been our experience that all students benefit from taking this extra three hours in Senior Exhibitions.
Each degree candidate is required to pass the senior comprehensive exam, which is given each semester.
Replace: the deleted phrase with the followingEach degree candidate must pass the Art Department Comprehensive Exam and take the Area Concentration Achievement Test in Art. These are offered every semester.
Delete: on page 65, section III, part b.Replace: the deleted section with the following
Each degree candidate must pass the Art Department Comprehensive Exam and take the Area Concentration Achievement Test in Art. These are offered every semester.
Rationale: As part of the Senior exit requirement the department wants to include a national standardized exam as part of our formative assessment. Students are required to take the ACAT but do not need to pass it to graduate. We compare scores from year to year and with the national norms to evaluate parts of our program.
