Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

Effective Date: Fall 1999

Delete: on page 113 the course title "171-4, 271-4, 371-4, Special Topics in Engineering (1-4)"

Replace: with the following

171-4, 271-4, 371-4, 471-4, Special Topics in Engineering (1-4)

Impact Statement: The addition of 400 - level Special Topics option in the course catalog will increase the flexibility of the program to offer courses in addition to the established group. This would allow us to take advantage of unique live teaching opportunities or distance learning situations.

No other UNCA departments will be affected. Typically, only engineering majors will be impacted, but in some instances, non-engineering students may be interested in enrolling in an ENGR Special Topics course. The applicability of the course to their UNCA curriculum will be at the discretion of the student's advisor and major department.

No additional staffing or facilities are anticipated.

Rationale: Add 400 level to existing 100, 200 and 300 level options. This is needed for the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) Program.
