GERM 110 or 115, 120 or 125 Elementary German I, II 6
Impact: The courses present no additional resource needs; each will be offered in place of one section of FREN 110, Fall and 120, Spring, and GERM 110, Fall and 120, Spring, as general education offerings.
Rationale: The courses will provide an attractive option in the foreign language general education sequence for the 27% or so of UNCA students planning to go to Graduate School and for whom a reading knowledge of a second language is essential. The courses maintain the components of spoken language and cultural knowledge necessary for the general education foreign language requirement. Students may move freely from 110 to 125 or from 115 to 120.
