Document Number 3: Oral Competency Requirement Addendum

Effective Date: Fall 1996

Insert:         In Catalog 1995-96, on page 43, between the paragraph
		headed Major Competency and the paragraph headed Proficiency
		Examination:

                Oral Competency.  A demonstration of oral competency is
                required of every degree candidate.  The departmental
                faculty determine the form of the demonstration.  A
                committee appointed by the Vice Chancellor for Academic
                Affairs will determine the form of the demonstration for
                students pursuing interdisciplinary or individual degree
                programs.  As a condition of graduation, any academic
                deficiencies or weaknesses revealed by the demonstration
                of competence must be corrected to the satisfaction of
                the supervising faculty group.
