ADD: HF-171-0 Jazz Styles to the list of courses which may be substituted for the laboratory portion of the arts requirement if the course is not in the student's major department. (Page 47 in the 1993-94 catalog) RATIONALE: An arts laboratory class in dance is already offered. Jazz Styles is a more specific course in dance. In Jazz Styles the students learn the basic techniques of a variety of jazz dances and are encouraged to find their own styles within these techniques. Jazz Styles is in complete agreement with the objective of the laboratory portion of the arts requirement that is to experience the creative process through a "hands-on" experience. IMPACT: The only impact it has is that the student has an additional opportunity to fulfill the arts laboratory requirement.
