        Statement of Faculty Senate Action: 



                              IDC #4:  University Relations



             The relationship between the office of University Relations and the

        faculty has never been really defined.  With the cooperation of the Vice

        Chancellor of University Relations and other affected parties, the

        University Planning Council proposes the following:  



        1) In order to promote better communication and coordination between the

        UNCA Foundation and the faculty of UNCA, the University Planning Council

        recommends that the UNCA Foundation amend its By-Laws to provide for

        expanding its Board of Directors to include two additional faculty

        members, to be elected by the Faculty Senate.  These faculty members

        would be charged to make timely reports to the Faculty Senate.  

             The current By-Laws of the Foundation provide for one faculty

        member and one student.  We recommend that these positions remain as

        specified and that the present faculty position continue to be elected

        on nomination of the Chancellor.  We suggest that the student member

        should be elected on the recommendation of the Student Government

        Association.  



        2) That the Vice Chancellor for University Relations present to the

        Faculty Senate an update of the activities and plans of the Office at

        the first or second meeting of the Faculty Senate in the Fall Semester. 



        3) That there be established a standing committee of the faculty to be

        appointed by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in consultation

        with the Vice Chancellor for University Relations which will serve in an

        advisory capacity to the Office.
