FACULTY SENATE MEETING FEB. 13, 1986 I. The meeting was called to order by Dr. Coyne at 3:33 in RL1. Present: Bennett, Cadle, Combs, Coyne, Dorr, Farzanegan, Henderson, Hollingsworth, Kormanik, Larson, Ruiz, Shoaf, Sweeney, and Uldricks. Excused: Betts, Downes, Grams. Many visitors were present also. II. The minutes from the December 12, 1985, meeting was approved. III. Dr. Dorr stated that there were no Administrative Committee reports at present. IV. Dr. Coyne presented a report from the Executive Committee. A. Dr. Dorr has approved Doc. #18 and Doc. #19; and acknow- ledged Doc. #20. B. March 4, 1986 was set to meet with a Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Candidate. C. March 6, 1986 at 3:30 a special senate meeting will be held. The Faculty Welfare Committee has a number of items to present to the senate. V. Dr. Combs presented the Academic Policies Committee report. Many documents concerning general education were presented to the senate. A. General Education Doc. #3, a foreign language proposal was moved by Dr. Combs. Dr. Farzanegan seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous. General education Doc. #3 became Senate Doc. #21. B. General Education #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11 create new Natural Science requirement courses. These courses include: Meteorology, Introduction to Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. General Education Doc. #21, in addition, deals with Natural Science Majors. Dr. Combs moved Docs. #4 - #11, #21. A second came from Dr. Sweeney. Discussion from the Senate opened concerning whether the Computer Sciences were included in these documents. It was confirmed that they are not included. An editorial change of Atmospheric Science from course #015 to 106 was suggested. A unanimous vote passed these documents. General Education Docs. #7 - #11 and #21 became Senate Doc. #22. C. General Education Docs. #12, #13, #14, #15, are Social Science proposals. Dr. Combs moved Docs. #12 - #15. The motion was passed unanimously. General Education Docs. #12, #13, #14, and #15 became Senate Doc. #23. D. General Education Doc. #16, a Physical Education proposal, created a course, The Physical Self. An alternative to this requirement is Psyc. 110. Dr. Combs moved Doc. #16 It was seconded by Dr. Bennett. The vote was unanimous. General Education Doc. #16 became Senate Doc. #24. E. APC Doc. #14 make changes in the Foreign Language Departments and add one new course. This document was moved by Dr. Combs and seconded by Dr. Farzanagen. The motion was passed unanimously. APC Doc. #14 became Senate Doc. #25. F. APC Doc. #15 creates a course #365, Playwriting Workshop. Doc. #15 was moved by Dr. Combs and seconded by Dr. Sweeney. A unanimous vote passed the motion. APC Doc. #15 became Senate Doc. #26. G. APC Doc. #16 creates a new math course: Statistics 185. Dr. Combs moved Doc. #16. An unanimous vote followed. APC Doc. #16 became Senate Doc. #27. H. APC Doc. #17 requires management majors to take Stat. 185 in lieu of Stat. 125. This document was moved by Dr. Combs and seconded by Dr. Bennett. It passed unanimously. APC Doc. #17 became Senate Doc. #28. I. APC Doc. #l8, a college skills proposal changed the status of these courses. The document was moved by Combs and seconded by Bennett. The vote was unanimous. APC Doc. #18 became Senate Doc. #30. J. APC Doc. #20 deals with a change in the prerequisite to Management 380. After a motion by Dr. Combs and a second by Dr. Kormanik the document was passed unanimously. APC Doc. #20 became Senate Doc. #29. K. APC Doc. #23 added four, one hour credit courses to the music major requirements. Dr. Combs made the motion. Dr. Henderson seconded. APC Doc. #23 became Senate Doc. #31. L. The last date for catalog changes is March 13th. VI. The Institutional Development Committee gave no proposals. VII. The Faculty Welfare Committee gave three main proposals to be submitted March 6, 1986. A. Release Time. B. Faculty Travel. C. Faculty Development. D. The Faculty Welfare Committee proposed that a Faculty parking permit allow faculty to park in faculty or student parking areas. A motion was made by Dr. Farzanagen on behalf of the Faculty Welfare Committee. Dr. Bennett seconded the proposal. After much dicussion and a decision to fully explain the proposal to the Chancellor the motion was passed unanimously. The parking proposal became Senate Doc. #32. E. Also reported by this committee was the availability of a new insurance plan. Wade Hall of Colonial Insurance is the salesman. The plan has been approved. F. Dr. Coyne voiced a matter he would like the Faculty Welfare Committee to look into. The matter deals with Retirement Benefits in the State System. VIII. No old business. IX. No new business. X.
