                      GPA Requirements for Teacher Certification







           PROPOSAL:



           Teacher certification students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in

           (a) their major; (b) education courses; and (c) cognate courses

           required in the teacher certification programs as a prerequisite

           for student teaching.  Teacher certification students must

           complete a minimum of 75 percent of the requirements in their

           major as a prerequisite for student teaching.



           RATIONALE:



           There is a need for minimum academic standards for students

           entering the teaching profession.  Therefore, there is a need

           for a catalog statement regarding prerequisites to student

           teaching at UNCA.
