1980-81 SENATE DOCUMENT #29 APC DOCUMENT #29 S/U Grading in 1981 Great Smokies Writers' Conference from the Department of Literature and Language The Academic Policies Committee recommends to the Faculty Senate approval of a request from the Department of Literature and Language to use S/U grading in 1981 Great Smokies Writers' Conference: REQUEST to use S/U Grading at Summer Writers' Conference. Rationale: This summer the Department of Literature and Language will offer The Great Smokies Writers' Conference, July 6 through 10. Three professional writers will teach a series of workshops and lecture/seminars, participate in a panel discussion, and hold private conferences with students who submit manuscripts. Participants will be allowed the option of attending the conference without credit, or, by submitting a manuscript and attending all features of the program, receiving 1 semester hour of university credit. 3 workshops @ 2 hours each 6 3 lecture/seminars @ 2 hours 6 2 readings @ 2 hours 4 1 panel discussion, 2 1/2 hours 2 1/2 1 private conference, 1 hour 1 19 1/2 This will be in keeping with the school's policy of requiring 800 contact minutes for one semester hour's credit. Because the teaching done in the conference will not be by regular faculty, and because of the creative nature of the work submitted by participants, many if not most of whom will not be UNCA students, we would like to request that this semester hour of work be granted S/U. Effective Date: Summer, 1981 (Passed by Faculty Senate 4/2/81)
