Add:
On page 197, in place of
deleted entry:
I. Required
courses for the major—39–41 hours with at least 15 hours at the 300-400 level,
including: MMAS 101, 107, 121, 151, 222, 322, 438, 490; CSCI 201 or 244; and
12-14 hours as follows:
A. Foundation—select
3 hours from: ART 101; CSCI 202; MCOM 104; MMAS 201; MUSC 131.
B. Aesthetics
and Social Awareness—select 3 hours from: ARTH 365; CSCI 351; MCOM 380, 382,
490; MMAS 255; PHIL 301, 310.
C. Emphasis
Areas—select six to eight hours from one of the following areas (selections may
require prerequisites). Special topics courses related to the emphasis area may
be substituted with approval of the program director:
1.
Computer Animation: CSCI 346; MMAS 310, 410.
2. Interactive Design: CSCI 344; MMAS 320, 330, 332,
348, 358, 420.
3. Video
Production: MMAS 350, 450; VMP 207 and 209, and either
a) VMP 303, 305 and 307, or b) one course from
VMP 437, 439 or 493.
Impact:
There
is no increase or decrease in the number of hours required for the major with
these edits.
Rationale:
These
new options strengthen the program, enhance student learning, and add requisite
core courses in Multimedia and Video.
2. Delete: On page
198, the entry under Requirements for the Minor
Add:
On page 198, in place of deleted entry:
Students
must complete 22-24 hours for the minor, including 3 hours from CSCI 201 or
244, 9 hours from MMAS 101, 121, 151, 201 and
222; 9 hours from 300-400 level MMAS; and one elective chosen from the courses
listed below.
ART
100, 101
CSCI
201, 202, 244, 344, 346, 361, 363
MGMT
384
MMAS
255
MUSC
131
PHIL
301, 310
PHYS
101, 102
VMP
207, 209, 305, 307
Impact:
There
is no increase or decrease in the number of hours required for the minor with
these edits. This change affects few
students and therefore has little impact on the other departments represented
by this change. According to a report from Archer Gravely, UNCA Institutional
Research, the number of declared MMAS minors varied from 1 to 4 students for
each of the last six semesters.
Rationale:
This
includes the requisite courses offered in the MMAS program, and the removal of
the sound recording courses in Music.
