Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC
Document 46: Delete the
section for Library Research
Effective
Date: Fall 2007
1. Delete: On pg 164, the entire section for Library Research (LR)
Impact: None. The
few remaining students needing to satisfy the Library Research requirement under
the General Education curriculum may fulfill this requirement by taking a
course that is designated as an Information Literacy Intensive. The course can
be within the major curriculum, but does not have to be.
Rationale: Beginning
Fall 2004, the Integrative Liberal Studies program replaced the former General
Education curriculum. Instead of Library Research (LR 102), students are now
required to complete two Information Literacy Intensive courses, typically at
the introductory level via LANG 120 or LSIC 379, and at the advanced level via
a designated course within the major.
To accommodate students needing to
satisfy the Library Research requirement under the former General Education
curriculum, LR 102 was taught as a regularly scheduled course through Spring
2005. In Fall 2005 and Spring 2006, LR 102 was offered on a limited basis as an
independent study to a few students still needing to satisfy this General
Education requirement. LR 102 is no longer being offered; therefore, the entry
should be deleted from the catalog.
