Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 27: Change
Course Descriptions for DRAM 362 and 462
Effective Date: Fall 2007
1. Delete: On pg 102, the course
description for DRAM 362
Analysis
and interpretation of the script, blocking and composition, coaching,
coordination of the production.
Prerequisites: DRAM 111, 121,
122, 144, 244. Fall.
Add: On pg 102, in place of
deleted entry:
Analysis and interpretation of the script, blocking
and composition, coaching, coordination of the production through hands-on
experience. Prerequisites: DRAM 111,
122, 144. Spring.
Impact: These changes do not impact
major, minor, or university requirements, and do not impact resources for the
department.
Rationale:
Adjusting
the prerequisites includes an editorial change in that 121 is a
prerequisite for 122 and listing it here is redundant. DRAM 244 is not necessary to begin the study
of directing. Indicating that the course involves hands-on experience is a
clearer representation of the work required and matches the expectations for
Theatre Arts Licensure in NC. Changing the course to a spring offering will
allow licensure students to complete the directing sequence in a timely fashion
before the student teaching semester.
2. Delete: On pg 103, the course
description for DRAM 462
A
continuation of DRAM 461; emphasis on period and nonrealistic drama. Each student will direct a one-act play for
public performance. Prerequisites: DRAM 461.
Spring.
Add: On pg 103, in place of
deleted entry:
A continuation of DRAM 362 with an emphasis on
conceptualization and production values.
Each student will direct a one-act play for public performance. Prerequisite:
DRAM 362. Odd years Fall.
Impact: These changes do not impact
major, minor, or university requirements, and do not impact resources for the
department.
Rationale: The prerequisite listed,
461, is a course that was replaced by 362.
This is an editorial change. Modifying the course description better
represents how the projects are approached in this course. It also allows for a
clearer match to the expectations for Theatre Arts Licensure in NC. Changing
the course to a odd years fall offering will allow licensure students to
complete the directing sequence in a timely fashion before the student teaching
semester.
