Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 25: Addition
of Special Topics to the MLA curriculum
Effective Date: Fall 2007
1. Add:
On
page 189, after the description of MLA 690:
571-3, 671-3 Special Topics in Master of Liberal
Arts (1-3)
Courses not otherwise included in the catalog listing
but for which there may be special needs. May be repeated for credit as subject
matter changes. See program director.
Impact:
The MLA program does not foresee any impact from this
change on program or university requirements. No concurrences are required.
Rationale:
The range of course offerings in the program is very
limited. Students are at present forced to repeat the core courses in order to
obtain the necessary elective credits, but this is not always the best option
for them. Further, many interesting and appropriate courses do not fit well
under the core course descriptions. The addition of the special topics category
would allow for flexibility in offerings, which would help students and
faculty.
