Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 24: Reinstatement
of MLA 690
Effective Date: Fall 2007
1.
Add: On page 189, after the description for MLA 680:
690 Master’s
Thesis (1-6)
A
substantial research project and resulting original thesis, with topic chosen
in consultation with the faculty member who will serve as the thesis director
and approved by the Graduate Council. Thesis must be publicly defended by the
candidate and accepted by the Thesis Committee and Graduate Council. Either 3
credits of MLA 680 or 6 credits of MLA 690 are required of all MLA candidates.
(Grading S/U/IP). Students who receive an
IP grade for MLA 690 will have two (2) additional semesters in which to
complete and defend their theses.
Impact:
The
program does not foresee any impact on program or university requirements or
resources as a result of this change.
Rationale:
In
the revision of curriculum last year an oversight was made in dropping the 690
course from the catalog. We still have many students who are under the older
curriculum and need these thesis credits to be available in order to complete
their programs.
