Impact:
No resource implications are involved. We expect that
this change will give us a clearer picture of what students are learning during
their time as majors with us.
Rationale:
As we continue to take a broader view of Classics,
keeping linguistic competence central, but encouraging students to put the
texts they read in a wider context of the ancient world, it seems appropriate
to test their knowledge of ancient culture more directly. To this end, we have
constructed a general reading list in Classics with which we will expect
students to be familiar and will use this as a basis for examining their
general knowledge in Classics in written and oral forms.
