Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
Addition of
ENVR 364 to list of electives in Ecology and Environmental Biology
concentration
Effective Date: Fall 2005
1. Add: On pg 117, the following course:
364 Ecosystem Ecology (4)
Study of basic ecosystem ecology concepts
and processes with
application of this
knowledge to different ecosystems, especially
terrestrial systems
of the
ENVR 241. Odd years Fall.
2. Delete: On pg 113,
under Concentration in Ecology and Environmental Biology:
19 hours of Ecology and
Biology electives chosen from...442, 443, 444.
Add: On pg 113, in place of deleted entry:
19 hours of Ecology and Biology electives chosen from
BIOL 210 or 211 (whichever is not selected above), 331, 332, 333, 334, 335,
337, 348, 350, 360; or ENVR 321, 340, 341, 346, 350, 364, 390, 442, 443, 444.
Impact: The addition of an advanced elective ecology
course, ENVR 364 for ENVR majors will increase course options for students in
our concentration in ecology and environmental biology, our most popular
concentration. The course has been
offered three times as a special topics course by existing faculty. No additional staffing needed to offer the
course.
Rationale: We are proposing the
addition of the new course to capitalize on existing expertise in the
department. The person teaching this
course was asked to develop new courses for ecology majors. ENVR majors can use
the course as part of the required 19 hours of Ecology and Biology electives
for our Concentration in Ecology and Environmental Biology.
