Add:
In place of deleted entry:
May not be used to fulfill major or minor
requirements.
Impact: None. This
provision was intended to be put in place by the General Education Review Task
Force, but was not due to an oversight.
Rationale: Liberal Studies Colloquia may not be used to fulfill
major requirements because:
(1) LS Colloquia are
explicitly interdisciplinary;
(2) It is desirable that
students from a broad range of majors take each colloquium, both introductory
and senior, so as to maximize diversity of academic interest and perspectives
in the classroom; and
(3) Colloquia should be
designed to appeal to a broad range of students rather than students from
particular majors or disciplines.
We believe that the same
logic that applies to majors applies to minors.
