Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

FWDC 1: Proposal to Modify the Composition of ILS Intensive Subcommittees.

(Revision of SD0703F; Faculty Handbook 10.3.8)

Effective Date: Immediately

In the Faculty Handbook, Section 10.3.8, at the end of the description of the structure of the ILS Oversight Committee and Intensive Subcommittees:

ADD:

Each Intensive Subcommittee shall have ex officio members as follows:

Writing Intensives: Director of University Writing Center

Quantitative Intensives: Director of the Math Lab

Information Literacy Intensives: University Librarian, or designate

Diversity Intensives: Director of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, or designate

DELETE:

The last sentence under Structure:

“The Information Literacy Intensive subcommittee must have one faculty member chosen from library faculty.”

Rationale:

Senate Document 0703F established the ILS Oversight Committee and the associated ILS Intensive Subcommittees, which are chaired by the members of ILSOC. These subcommittees are now in operation and rely on the expertise of other professionals at UNCA. ILSOC recommends that the subcommittees be assisted by ex officio members from appropriate areas.
