Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 20:         Revision of prerequisites for MUSC 484, 485, 486, 487
                                      Clarification of ensemble requirements for music majors

Effective Date: Fall 2004

1. Delete: On pg. 178, prerequisite for MUSC 484:

Prerequisites: MUSC 386, 387


Add: On pg. 178, in place of deleted entry:

Prerequisites: MUSC 232, 386, 387

Impact: None.

Rationale: This added prerequisite is needed in order to better integrate musical concepts, including score reading and analysis into the Music Technology curriculum



2. Delete: On pg. 178, prerequisite for MUSC 485:

Prerequisites: MUSC 386, 387

Add: On pg. 178, in place of deleted entry:

Prerequisites: MUSC 232, 386, 387

Impact: None.

Rationale: This added prerequisite is needed in order to better integrate musical concepts, including score reading and analysis, into the Music Technology curriculum




3. Delete: On pg. 173, in I, the ensemble requirements for the General Music Track:

four hours of approved ensemble and six hours of approved Music electives at the 300 or 400 level in area of emphasis.

Add: On pg. 173, in place of deleted entry:

four hours of ensemble and six hours of Music electives at the 300-400 level in area of emphasis approved in writing by the department chair.

Impact: None.

Rationale: To insure that ensemble participation is appropriate to individual student's major.



4. Delete: On pg. 174, in I, the ensemble requirements for the Jazz Studies Track:

four hours of approved ensemble.

Add: On pg. 174, in place of deleted entry:

four hours of approved ensemble recommended by the Director of Jazz Studies and approved in writing by the department chair.

Impact: None.

Rationale: To insure that ensemble participation is appropriate to individual student's major.



5. Delete: On pg. 174, in I, the ensemble requirements for the Music Technology track

two hours of approved ensemble.

Add: On pg. 176, in place of deleted entry:

two hours of approved ensemble recommended by the Director of Music Technology and approved in writing by the department chair.

Impact: None.
