Statement of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 39: Change to course descriptions for MATH 215 and 216
Effective Date: Fall 2003
Delete: On pg 169, in the course description for MATH 215, the first sentence:
A continuation of Math 211.
Delete: On pg 169, the course description for MATH 216:
Laboratory Experiences designed to address how children learn mathematics. Field
experience in the elementary schools is included. The activities parallel the topics
addressed in MATH 215. Corequisite: MATH 215. Fall and Spring.
Add: On pg 169, in place of deleted entry:
Laboratory experiences designed to address how children learn mathematics. Field experience in the schools is included. The activities parallel the topics addressed in MATH 215. Corequisite: MATH 215. Fall and Spring.
Impact: Middle school licensure students who wish to have a concentration in mathematics will be able to take this class.
Rationale: When the state department arrived, they indicated that students needed a competency in geometry. Because these courses include methods, they are the best fit for meeting the middle school competency.
