Statement of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 38: Change to departmental statements regarding middle school licensure.
Effective Date: Fall 2003
1. Delete: On pg 69, in the first full paragraph, the last 3 sentences:
Students seeking licensure in middle school science should complete all the requirements for the biology major with concentration in general biology including PHYS 131 as well as ENVR 130. A second area of concentration is required for middle school licensure, preferably in mathematics. See the science licensure advisor in the Education Department for more information about teacher licensure.
Add: On pg 69, in place of deleted entry:Students seeking middle school licensure should review requirements found in the Education section of the catalog and see the appropriate licensure advisor for additional information.
Impact: The wording is changed to clarify the middle school licensure program for undergraduates.
Rationale: Students can now go to one place to see what is required for middle school licensure.
2. Delete: On pgs 74-75, under Chemistry with Teacher Licensure, the last 3 sentences:
Students seeking Middle School Licensure must complete the requirements listed above for Chemistry with Teacher Licensure as well as BIOL 105. Also a second area of concentration is required, preferably in mathematics. See the appropriate advisor in the Education Department for additional information about teacher licensure.
