Statement of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 18: Addition of computer (business technology) competency to the requirements for Industrial and Engineering Management major; change in course description for MGMT 492.
Effective Date: Fall 2003
Add: On page 154, under General Requirements for Industrial and Engineering Management:
VI. Demonstration of computer (business technology) competency is fulfilled by meeting published departmental standards regarding a designated presentation/project in MGMT 492.
Delete: On page 160, course description for MGMT 492 Senior Design Project (3))
A semesterlong designing project with a participating host organization in the Western North Carolina area. This course consists of a specific project involving the design of a management system: it serves as the capstone course and fulfills the competency requirement for the industrial and engineering management program. Prerequisites: senior standing and consent of sponsoring faculty. A student's oral competency will be determined by the evaluation of and appropriate feedback on an individual formal presentation. Fall and Spring.

Impact Statement: This change has no impact on the department's majors or minors, the university's requirements, other departments, or future department course offerings.
Rationale: A little over two years ago, the Department of Management and Accountancy established program objectives for computer (business technology) competency. The objective for the Industrial and Engineering Management Program is: Students will be able to apply word processors, Internet research, computer presentation software and spreadsheet/optimization software as appropriate to a business situation as demonstrated through a project or case.
