APC Document 17: Change in degree competency in Management; Addition of computer (business technology) competency to the requirements for Management major; change in course description for MGMT 491.

Delete: On page 153, under General Requirements for Management:
III. Demonstration of degree competency is fulfilled by successful completion of a specified comprehensive project in MGMT 491. Demonstration of oral competency is fulfilled by meeting published departmental standards regarding a designated presentation given in MGMT 491.

III. Demonstration of degree competency is fulfilled by successful completion of a comprehensive exam. Demonstration of oral competency is fulfilled by meeting published departmental standards regarding a designated presentation given in MGMT 491. Demonstration of computer (business technology) competency is fulfilled by meeting published departmental standards regarding a designated presentation/project given in MGMT 491.
Applies management and social philosophy concepts to in-depth analyses of current and future business situations. Particular emphasis is placed on research and team dynamics, as well as ethical and international business issues. A comprehensive project and an oral presentation are required. Successful completion of the comprehensive project fulfills the management degree competency requirement. Successful completion of the presentation, as defined by published departmental standards, fulfills the oral competency requirement for the management degree. Prerequisites: HUM 414; senior standing; completion of all required 300-level management courses. Pre- or corequisite: MGMT 480. Every semester.

Impact Statement: This change has no impact on the department's majors or minors, the university's requirements, other departments, or future department course offerings.
Rationale: A little over two years ago, the Department of Management and Accountancy established program objectives for computer (business technology) competency. The objective for the Management Program is: Students will be able to apply spreadsheets, word processors, Internet research, and computer presentation software as appropriate to a business situation as demonstrated through a project or case.
