APC Document 9:   Changes in Prerequisites for Environmental Studies

Effective Date: Fall 2003

1. On pgs 108-111, make the following changes in prerequisites for the specified courses:

ENVR 320
Delete: Prerequisites: CHEM 132, ENVR 105.
Add Prerequisites: ENVR 105; CHEM 132 is recommended

ENVR 321
Delete: Corequisite: ENVR 241; or BIOL 105 for Biology majors; or ENVR 241.
Add: Prerequisite: ENVR 241.

ENVR 341
Delete: Prerequisite: ENVR 130.
Add: Prerequisite: ENVR 241.

ENVR 350
Delete: Prerequisites: BIOL 211; ENVR 130; or permission of instructor.
Add: Prerequisites: ENVR 130; or permission of instructor.

ENVR 442
Delete: Prerequisite: ENVR 130.
Add: Prerequisite: ENVR 241.

ENVR 444
Delete: Prerequisite: ENVR 443.
Add: Corequisite: ENVR 443.

2. Delete On pg 109-111, delete the phrase, "or permission of instructor" from the following course descriptions:

ENVR 334, 335, 340, 346, 385, 390, and 443.

Impact: None

Rationale: It is the understanding of the Department that the phrase "by (or) permission of the instructor" will be deleted unless a specific request is received to have it remain. Faculty of ENVR have reviewed the prerequisites for each course and have modified prerequisites based on the directives of APC. We request that four of our existing courses, ENVR 333, 336, 350, and 354 retain "or permission of instructor" as they typically have partial enrollment with nonstudents from Asheville and the surrounding area. We do not want to discourage this enrollment of nonstudents based on a perception that another course is required before enrollment.
