Statement of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 8: Computer Competency for Environmental Studies
Effective Date: Fall 2003
Add: On pg 106, at the end of III
Completion of ENVR 241, 330, and 490 fulfills the all-university computer competency requirement.
Impact: None, competency is already anticipated through existing courses.
Rationale: APC is requiring a description of computer competency for all departments. We meet this requirement in three areas (word processing, presentation software, and use of spreadsheets). Students majoring in Environmental Studies are required to write a variety of papers and laboratory reports using word processing programs. A formal paper is required in both ENVR 330 and ENVR 490. Students must present at least three formal presentations in ENVR 330 and one in ENVR 490. Presentations must include at least one or more that are developed with computer software such as PowerPoint. Students are required to use data spreadsheets in ENVR 241 and several advanced laboratory courses.
