Statement of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 3: Deletion of Prerequisites for SOC 357, 410, 446
Effective Date: Fall 2003
DELETE: As listed in 2002-2003 Catalog, page 198 for the course listing of SOC 357, Development and Social Change in Latin America, delete "Prerequisites: Soc 100, 225."
DELETE: As listed in 2002-2003 Catalog, page 199 for the course listing of SOC 410, Sociology of Modern Society, delete "Prerequisites: SOC 310."
DELETE: As listed in 2002-2003 Catalog, page 199 for the course listing of SOC 446, Working Class Organizations in North America, Europe and Latin America, delete "Prerequisites: Soc 100, 225."
IMPACT STATEMENT: The only impact of this change will be that these courses may have higher enrollment because they will now be open to non-Sociology majors. The courses have been historically and consistently under-enrolled, to the point sometimes of cancellation. So this will be a positive impact.
RATIONALE: This change makes these three elective courses consistent with other electives in the major with regard to prerequisites. It further enables a higher enrollment by opening the courses up to students who are not Sociology majors.
