Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 85: Change
description of Psychology with Teacher Licensure
Effective Date: Fall
2011
1. Delete: On
page 245, under Psychology with Teacher
Licensure:
Psychology majors who are completing middle school
licensure are required to take PSYC 319. See the Education Department section
for additional licensure requirements.
Add: On
page 245, in place of deleted entry:
Psychology
majors who are interested in teacher licensure should contact the Education Department
for additional requirements.
Impact:
None.
Rationale:
The Psychology Department
has provided service courses to the Education Department and teacher licensure
candidates for many years. Presently,
some teacher licensure candidates are required to take Introductory Psychology
(equivalent to PSYC 100), and a single, upper-level course in PSYC (PSYC 319),
a minimal amount of psychology. Over the
past twenty years, the nature and credit-hours of PSYC courses required for
licensure students has changed several times, in response to the needs of the
Education Department. Hence we would
prefer to refer students to the Education Department for the most current
information as it continues to evolve.
