Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 79: Delete
PSYC 463 from curriculum
Effective Date:
Fall 2011
1.Delete: On page
249, the entry for PSYC 463:
463 Fieldwork
(3)
Advanced
psychology students work in local human service agencies to gain applied clinical
experience. Weekly seminar meetings
focus on the acquisition of basic helping skills and discussion of ethical and
professional issues. Prerequisites: PSYC 100, 201, 202; and one course from PSYC
308, 312, or 345. (Grading is S/U). Fall and Spring.
Impact:
None.
Students who wish to gain fieldwork experience may opt to take the fieldwork
version of PSYC 412, the senior capstone course.
Rationale:
PSYC
463 has always been a psychology elective, and it enrolls about 35-40 students
per academic year. In the fall of 2010,
the Psychology Department began offering a version of our senior capstone
course (PSYC 412) which includes a fieldwork component. Students interested in obtaining fieldwork
experience may opt to enroll in that version of 412. The Department may offer a special topics
course in Fieldwork in the future, possibly modified and reduced to two credit
hours. In the meantime, we wish to
simply delete this course.
