Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 73: Add
new course, ART 403, Drawing IV
Effective Date: Fall 2011
1.
Add: On page 72, add ART 403, Drawing IV:
403 Drawing IV (3)
Drawing projects
are student-driven with the goal being the development of ideas through extensive
research, exploration and experimentation. Class interactions will involve both
informal and formal critiques, time in the studio, and lectures that are
specifically focused on an understanding of historical and contemporary artwork
and practice. Prerequisite: ART 303.
Fall and Spring.
Impact:
This course will have no
immediate impact in regards to additional studio space/equipment in that we
will be offering the same number of sections in drawing as we are offering
now. For the time being, this 400-level
course will be co-taught with Drawing II & III in the way that Printmaking
II, III and IV are co-taught). In the future, when the course grows in
enrollment, Drawing II (ART212) will be separated out into its own course with
Drawing III (ART303) & Drawing IV (ART403) still taught together. This will parallel the way in which the
painting concentration is structured i.e. ART 211 (Painting II) listed as a
separate course, while ART 320 and 420 (Painting III and IV) are co-taught as
one course.
Rationale:
From a department wide
curricular standpoint, the course progression within each concentration follows
the standard 100 -400 level format. The addition of this course is to keep
drawing in line with the other five concentrations of painting, printmaking,
ceramics, photography & sculpture.
The department feels this unified sequential approach: Drawing I, II, III and IV is vital for drawing to be viewed as a
concentration for students who wish to major in this concentration.
