Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC
Document 70: List CHEM courses students may
not use as upper-level electives
in the B.S. Concentration in Chemistry
of the Environment, and the
B.A. Concentration in Chemistry
Effective
Date: Fall 2011
1. Add: On page 92, under
Bachelor of Science Degree-Concentration
in Chemistry of the Environment,
after “course work in CHEM”:
(CHEM 390, 411 or 499 cannot be used to fulfill this
requirement)
2. Add: On page 92, under Bachelor of Arts Degree-Concentration in Chemistry,
after “course work in CHEM”:
(CHEM 390, 411 or 499 cannot be used to fulfill this
requirement)
Impact:
None.
Serves to clarify and formalize departmental practice so students will be aware
of the exclusions.
Rationale:
The department is
now including in each of the concentration listings a list of courses that cannot be used to satisfy the
upper-level required electives. CHEM
390 and 499 are variable credit-hour research courses (three research courses
are already required: 416, 417, 418), and 411 is Laboratory Assistantship in
Chemistry. Students must take courses other than these to complete the
requirement. These courses have been excluded from the list of possible
electives for quite some time, and this has been communicated during advising.
Adding the exclusions to the catalog formalizes the process.
