Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 58:
Delete Concentration in Communication Research in Mass Communication
Effective Date:
Fall 2011
1. Delete: On page 201, concentration
description, Concentration in
Communication Research:
Concentration in Communication Research—16-17 hours: 4
hours in MCOM 498, and 12-13 hours from MCOM 343, 345, 380, 382, 384, 388, 451,
460, 482, 483, 484.
Impact:
This
concentration has not received sufficient student interest. Only one student
has declared this concentration since its implementation. Resource Impact:
Removal of this concentration will have a positive impact on faculty time as it
will alleviate administrative elements.
Rationale:
Of
the four concentrations offered in Mass Communication, three are widely popular
while the research concentration has only had a single student. Although
originally intended as a pathway for students interested in graduate study, we
find many students are successfully applying to graduate programs from our
other concentrations.
