Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 39: Change
prerequisites for MMAS 222, 322, 450
Effective
Date: Fall 2011
1.
Delete: On
page 221, in the description for MMAS
222:
Prerequisites: MMAS 121, 151.
Add: On page 221, in place of deleted entry:
Prerequisites: One course from CSCI 181, 182, or 185; MMAS
121, 151.
Impact:
There will be negligible impact to either
MMAS or CSCI because a programming course is already required for the MMAS
major. Students will need to have already taken this required CSCI course prior
to enrolling in MMAS 222.
Rationale:
MMAS 222 includes some scripting. Students
who enroll in 222 without an introductory programming course hold the class
back while they learn basic programming constructs. This change improves the
curriculum by requiring students to take the courses in an advantageous
sequence.
2. Delete: On
page 221, in the description for MMAS
322, New Media Art and Design II:
Prerequisite: MMAS 222.
Add: On
page 221, in place of deleted entry:
Prerequisites:
MMAS 222, 242.
Impact:
There will be no impact on the resources
and staffing of the MMAS department due to this change. No new lab equipment or
space will be needed.
Rationale:
Students should take the New Media History
course before taking MMAS 322 in order to have the proper historical foundation
for the upper level studio courses.
3. Delete: On page 222, in the
description for MMAS 450, Digital Video
Art:
Prerequisite: MMAS 322.
Add: On page 222, in place of deleted
entry:
Prerequisites: MMAS
322, MMAS 350.
Impact:
The restructuring of the prerequisites will
be addressed during advising.
Rationale:
MMAS 350 was meant to be a prerequisite for
MMAS 450 and was accidentally omitted from the catalog. This change enforces
the correct course sequence.
