Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 22: Change
Advanced Placement credit for Art
Effective Date: Fall 2010
1. Delete: On page 31, in Advanced Placement section,
under Art:
History 5 3 ARTH 201 or 202
Studio,
Drawing 5 3 None (A)
Studio,
General 5 3 ART 100
Add: On page 31, in place of deleted entry:
Art
History 5 3 ARTH 201 or 202
Studio Art, Drawing 5 3 ART 112
Impact Statement:
This
change will impact a very small percentage of incoming students due to the high
standards we require from students in order to receive course credit. It will
potentially open a few additional slots in the ART 112 classes for other
incoming students who do not receive credit for AP Studio Art, Drawing. In
addition it will move those students who qualify through the foundation program
quicker, and into their upper level concentration areas.
Rationale:
This
change will delete an obsolete AP category. The AP Studio, General exam has
been eliminated by the College Board. In addition, the UNCA Art Department is
redesigning its foundation curriculum and eliminating ART 100 from the Art
department course offerings. The College Board’s Studio Art, Drawing category
will allow incoming freshmen to be able to get course credit for ART 112 if
they receive the highest score of 5 on their AP portfolio.
2.
Delete: On page 33, under Notes:
A.
AP
test and review of portfolio by Art Department may result in course waiver.
B.
Students
will not receive credit for both Language and Composition and Literature
and Composition AP tests.
C.
Students
who score 5 on either test should contact the department chair for placement.
D.
Students
will not receive credit for both European and World History AP tests.
Add: On
page 33, in place of deleted entry:
A.
Students
will not receive credit for both Language and Composition and Literature
and Composition AP tests.
B.
Students
who score 5 on either test should contact the department chair for placement.

Impact Statement:
None.
The letters beside the course waivers for LANG 120, FREN 210/220, SPAN 210/220,
and HIST 152 will need to be adjusted accordingly.
Rationale:
Changes
are editorial to reflect the change in the equivalency for Studio, Drawing.
