107 Natural
History of the Southern Appalachians (3)
An introduction to the geology, soils, plants
and animals common in the Southern Appalachians. Class will include field trips
to biologically rich areas near Asheville. Odd years Spring.
Impact
Statement:
This course has been offered twice as a
special topics, and is being added to the regular departmental curriculum. It
will replace ENVR 173, NH of the SA in the ILSN courses for Cluster 5. The
instructor has offered this class in previous springs, so the course load
remains unchanged for the department.
Rationale:
The special topics class has been taught
twice as a Cluster 5 natural science selection. The class was well received,
with students from a wide variety of majors choosing it, even if they didn't
need it to fulfill the cluster requirement. Because many students have
indicated an interest in using it for a cluster course, the department decided
to make it a permanent addition to our course offerings, thus making it easier
for interested students to plan their schedules.
