Highlights of Progress Made in 2008-2009 Academic Year
· Maintained high levels of performance and morale in the division during budget cuts, staff vacancies and position forfeitures. Staff remained focused on serving students, and turnover in the division remained minimal.
· Completed full implementation of our own UNC Asheville Required Student Health Insurance program
· Implemented regular meetings of Student Affairs Staff and Admissions Staff to improve collaboration on the admissions process

Opened the
· Developed U-LEAD, the new co-curricular student leadership development program
· Developed "Live and Lead," a summer residential leadership development program for students working on campus over the summer
· Executed two-year renewal of Chartwells contract which resulted in additional financial support coming back to the University, a divestiture from Smithfield Foods, a stronger commitment to supporting local food growers and vendors, and enhanced strategies to educate students on healthy eating through the dining program
· Collaborated with Academic Affairs to launch MapWorks, a web-based early intervention survey tool used to identify first-year students who may be struggling with academic, social and other transitional issues. Participating students received an interactive web-based report which contained a compressed analysis of their results, suggestions for a successful transition, and links to campus resources. 74% of the Fall ’08 class participated.
· Instituted FLLIP (Freshman Living Learning Integrated Program) pilot. A residential-based program integrating the classroom and residence hall experience, FLLIP was launched with seven LSIC faculty this Fall and is housed in Founders Hall. Collaborative social, service and course-based programs and activities, both on and off campus, provide students with an opportunity to develop deeper ties to their peers, their LSIC faculty and other campus faculty and staff, and course content, while expanding and strengthening their curricular and co-curricular experience.

Led a committee which worked throughout the year
to develop a financial model to expand the University’s residence hall
capacity, in line with the goals of the Strategic Plan and Enrollment Task

Highlights of 2009-2010 Initiatives
· Finalize plan for expanded residence hall capacity and begin design phase
· Develop Emergency Management program and complete 2007 UNC Safety Task Force recommendations
· Implement new UNC System student health insurance plan
· Continue to increase co-curricular opportunities for students
· Develop new strategies to engage off-campus students in campus life
