Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 77: Change
course description for HWP 380
Effective Date: Fall 2009
1. Delete: On page 158, the course description for HWP 380,
Internship in Health and Wellness Promotion:
Advanced students
are placed in an area health and wellness promotion program for experience
under professional supervision. Includes
reading and biweekly seminar.
Prerequisites: HWP 153 or 154 or 155; 182; 225; 253; Pre-or co- requisites
HWP 310, 325, 420. See department chair.
Add: On page 158, in place of deleted entry:
Students are placed in a supervised health and
wellness promotion program that relates to their career goals and learning
objectives. Requirements may include readings, a major project, biweekly
seminars and final presentation. Prerequisites: one
course from HWP 152, 153, 154 or 155; HWP 225. Certification in basic CPR/first aid is
required. Spring and Fall.
Impact:
The
changes should not affect the department or faculty teaching load as the course
will be offered in the same manner that it currently is being offered.
Rationale:
The
proposed change in prerequisites enables Health & Wellness Promotion
students to complete this Internship experience earlier in their academic
program, allowing them the opportunity to take more than one Internship if
their career goals and personal development warrant. The addition of several
academic requirements more appropriately reflects the current course content.
The changes in the prerequisites allow reflect input from a survey of
Internship site supervisors.
