281 Principles
of International Relations (4)
366 Democracy in
369 Government and Politics of
380 Globalization and its Critics (4)
384 Liberal Universalism and its Critics (4)
Impact:
One individual is responsible for teaching the
three-hundred level courses and the department’s course planning grid indicates
the change will not affect his ability to offer these classes regularly. The
department is still uncertain about the impact four-credit-hour courses will
have on enrollment, but we are committed to continuing the experiment for three
years.
Rationale:
These changes continue the department’s shift from 3
to 4-credit courses.
The Department has determined the pedagogical
advantages of four-hour courses outweigh the scheduling difficulties. Four-credit courses allow us, for example, to
participate more fully in the ILS intensives by incorporating direct
instruction in the intensive focus without sacrificing substantive course content. Four-credit courses also provide an increased
opportunity for students to engage in directed undergraduate research as there
is more time to devote to guiding such efforts. These courses were not changed
last year because the individual responsible for them was not prepared to make
the change. After completing his
experiments, he has decided to go with this format.
2. Delete: On p.
173 under Requirements for Concentration in Ethics and Social Institutions:
I.
Required courses for the major–18 hours
Add: On p. 173, in place of deleted entry:
I.
Required courses for the major–18-19 hours
Impact:
Students completing the Ethics and Social
Institutions concentration in Interdisciplinary Studies may be required to take
an additional hour.
Rationale:
Editorial change reflecting the addition of 1 hour to
POLS 281.
