Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 51: Increase
Course Credit Available for Special Topics
Courses in Education
Effective Date: Fall 2009
1. Delete: On p. 132, the title and
description for Special Topics in
Education
171-3, 271-3, 371-3, 471-3 Special Topics in Education (1-3)
Courses not otherwise included in the catalog listing
but for which there may be special needs. May be repeated for credit as often
as permitted and as subject matter changes. See department chair.
Add: On
page 132, in place of deleted entry:
171-4, 271-4,
371-4, 471-4 Special Topics in
Education (1-4)
Courses not otherwise included in the catalog listing
but for which there may be special needs. May be repeated for credit as often as
permitted and as subject matter changes. See department chair.
Impact:
Impact will be minimal. Four-hour special
topics courses are taught infrequently, and department resources are adequate
to cover them.
Rationale:
The current course description limits the
number of credit hours we can award for a special topics course to three.
Increasing this number to four will allow us to pilot some new courses we have
designed in keeping with NC DPI’s charge that we
“re-envision” our programs.
