Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 22: Change
Scheduled Offering of ECON 314
Effective Date: Fall 2009
1. Delete: On p. 121, at end of course
description for ECON 314:
Odd years Fall.
Add: On p. 121, in place of deleted entry:
Spring.
Impact:
This change increases the offering of ECON 314 from
biannual to annual. We have begun this
offering pattern this year and intend to continue offering ECON 314 every
spring.
Rationale:
ECON 314 is a course with consistently high enrollments,
particularly since it fulfills ILSS requirements in Cluster I: Globalization
and the Environment; in Fall 2007, 25 students were enrolled. We believe that more students, both those who
are majoring in Economics and those who are not, are interested in development
issues. We have two faculty members with expertise and interest in offering
this course, and this offering pattern enables both to regularly teach it.
We have moved the class to the spring semester
because every fall we offer another course with international content, ECON
250. Our other international courses, ECON 350 and ECON 355, will be offered in
alternate spring semesters.
