Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
APC Document 12: Add
ENVR 343, Stream Ecology;
Add ENVR
343 as an option for the Concentration in
Ecology
and Environmental Biology
Effective Date: Fall 2009
1. Add: On
page 142, new course, ENVR 343:
343 Stream
Ecology (4)
Study of the structure and function of flowing-water
ecosystems. Students will learn both ecological theory and research techniques,
with emphasis on field and laboratory investigations of local streams and
rivers. Prerequisite: ENVR 241. Even years Fall.
Impact:
No significant impact.
Rationale:
This course has been taught twice as a Special Topics
class, once by an adjunct instructor and once by David Gillette, the current
instructor. It will now be taught regularly by Gillette, whose recent hire filled
a faculty position in this subject area.
The course has been well-received by students, and putting it into a
regular course rotation will allow students to plan ahead to include it in
their schedules.
2. Delete: On page
139, under Concentration in Ecology and Environmental Biology:
or ENVR 321, 341, 346, 348,
350, 360, 364, 390, 442, 443, 444.
Add: On page 139,
in place of deleted entry:
or ENVR 341, 343, 346, 348,
360, 364, 390, 442, 443, 444.
Impact:
ENVR 321 and 350 are being deleted from the
curriculum. The addition of ENVR 343 gives students a different option for
fulfilling the electives requirement.
Rationale:
Editorial to reflect curricular changes.
