Impact:
The
changes will have no impact on resources.
Rationale:
The changes in MGMT 352,
464, 480, and ACCT 418 will make the courses more accessible and
facilitate progress to
graduation. At the same time, they are designed to ensure that students will be
appropriately prepared. The
changes to MGMT 386, 398, 453 and ACCT 417 are designed to achieve the
second benefit. There are
currently no prerequisites for International Management and Marketing
Strategies (MGMT 398),
which makes it accessible to students from across campus. However, a level of
intellectual maturity is
necessary for students to get full benefit from the course, especially class
discussions. That maturity
is more likely found in students who have achieved junior standing. Similarly,
Management students who
have a background in their introductory accounting classes are better
prepared for a course in
Information Systems (MGMT 386), and Accounting students who have
successfully completed the
first Intermediate course are better prepared for the complexities of the tax
course (ACCT 417).
