368 Poetics of Identity and Perception (LANG
368) (3)
A poetry workshop focused on representation of self
and identity. A wide variety of poems
exploring these themes will be studied.
Students will write original poems as well as craft and thematic
analyses of exemplary texts.
Impact: Adding this course will
have no resource implications for the department.
Rationale: This class has been taught
three times already. It is an ILSA
course and is part of ILS Cluster 4: Perception: Senses, Self, and Society. It
is an approved Diversity Intensive and Writing Intensive course. There has been
consistently high demand for the course, resulting in its being overenrolled
every semester it’s taught. The
department plans to continue offering the course to serve the ILS program as
well as students in the literature and language department. Because they are currently being taught as
special topics courses, the courses are already incorporated into faculty
teaching loads.
2. Add: On pg 172, new course, LANG 466, Advanced Creative Non-Fiction
466
Advanced Creative Non-Fiction (3)
Intensive writing experience for students with an
advanced or professional interest in the writing of creative non-fiction,
including the memoir. May include study of contemporary essays, memoir, and
literary journalism. May be repeated once for credit. Prerequisite: admission
to concentration in creative writing and LANG 363 or LANG 366; or permission of
the instructor. See department chair.
Impact: Adding this
course will have no resource implications. It increases the offerings in the
Language Curriculum and further diversifies our curriculum.
Rationale: This course
has been taught five times as a special topics and helps meet a demand from
both majors and the general student population for such a course.
