Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

 

 

APC Document 2:                            Change credit-hour limit for MATH 499 and STAT 499

 

 

Effective Date: Fall 2008

 

 

1.  Delete:         On page 200, the description for MATH 499

 

499             Undergraduate Research in Mathematics (1-3)

Independent research under the supervision of a faculty mentor. An IP grade may be awarded at the discretion of the instructor. Can be repeated for a total of 3 hours credit. Prerequisites: MATH 280, 291. See department chair.

 

Add :          On page 200, in place of deleted entry:

 

                    499           Undergraduate Research in Mathematics (1-6)

Independent research under the supervision of a faculty mentor. An IP grade may be awarded at the discretion of the instructor. May be repeated for a total of 6 hours credit. Prerequisites: MATH 280, 291. See department chair.

Impact:  There will be little impact.

 

Rationale:  Most departments allow the possibility of six hours of credit for undergraduate research. This will put the Mathematics program more in line with other departments on campus.
