Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
FWDC 1: Proposal to Establish a Student Affairs
Faculty Advisory Committee
as a Standing Committee (Faculty Handbook
Section 10)
Effective Date: Immediately
Add the following to the
Faculty Handbook, Section 10:
Title: Student Affairs Faculty Advisory Committee
Purpose
This
committee serves as an advisory body to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
and other leaders in the Division of Student Affairs. Responsibilities include providing
information, feedback and advice on current student issues including, but not
limited to:
The
committee also serves as a communicating bridge between the Vice Chancellor for
Student Affairs and the faculty. The
Vice Chancellor will use the committee as a quick faculty feedback group on
visions, plans and new initiatives in the Division of Student Affairs.
Membership
Each
year the Faculty Senate will appoint one new member.
Recommendations
to: Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Reports
to: Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
The
Vice Chancellor will convene the committee at least four times each academic
year.
Rationale
The
Division of Student Affairs currently utilizes student advisory groups and
student assessment strategies for each of its primary functional areas. The Vice Chancellor regularly solicits
student input through the Student Government Association and other student
leaders. What is missing is a system for
direct feedback from a pure faculty voice.
Although the committee is not and should not be a decision-making body,
the committee serves the leadership of Student Affairs in a key advisory role
on important decisions that affect student life at UNC Asheville.
