Statement
of Faculty Senate Action:
FWDC 8: Proposal to rename the Feldman
Committee, Revise Membership and Duties
(Revision of
SD2990S and SD0988F; Faculty Handbook Section 10.3.4)
Effective Date:
Immediately
To Proposal will:
·
Rename
the Feldman Professorship Review Committee to the Faculty Scholarship and
Service Awards Committee.
·
Replace
the two members from the University Teaching Council with two members from the
University Service Council.
·
Adds
two duties:
o
To
select one of the ranked full-time faculty members to receive the annual
Distinguished Scholarship Award.
o
To
select one of the ranked full-time faculty members to receive the annual
Distinguished Service Award.
Rationale:
This will increase
efficiency of determining these three awards and will ensure that one person
does not receive both the Feldman Award and either the Distinguished
Scholarship Award or the Distinguished Service Award. The name change reflects the new
responsibilities.
It is appropriate that the Faculty Scholarship and Service Awards Committee
membership include members of the University Service Council. The duties of the University Teaching Council
do not currently include serving on the Feldman Committee. This document corrects that oversight.
1. Add to Handbook Section 10.3.4 the bold/italic
text below:
